This mythical creature, with the body of a lion and the head of a man, symbolizes King Khafre, representing his power and wisdom. Carved from a colossal single limestone rock, the Sphinx stands tall at 73 meters (240 feet) in height and 19 meters (60 feet) in width.
Explore the Valley Temple, which is an integral part of the ancient mummification process during the Old Kingdom of Egypt (2686-2134 BC). Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
After enjoying breakfast on the boat, you will be guided by your tour guide to explore some of Luxor's most awe-inspiring attractions. Your itinerary will include:
The Valley of Kings: This sacred valley served as the final resting place for esteemed pharaohs and queens of ancient Egypt between 1570-1070 BC. With a total of 63 tombs, including those of renowned pharaohs like Ramses, Amenhotep I, Hatshepsut, and Tutankhamun, the Valley of Kings is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. Tutankhamun's tomb, in particular, attracts a significant number of visitors.
The Hatshepsut Temple: Built during the New Kingdom in 1479 BC, the majestic Hatshepsut Temple, also known as Djoser-"Holy Djeseru's of Holies," is a tribute to Queen Hatshepsut, one of ancient Egypt's most illustrious rulers. It took 15 years to complete and was dedicated to the deity Amun and Hatshepsut's enduring legacy. The temple's remarkable Classical Architecture showcases exquisite artifacts and sculptures from ancient Egypt.
The Colossi of Memnon: These colossal quartzite sandstone statues, weighing 720 tonnes each, were created in the likeness of Pharaoh Amenhotep III (1386-1350 BC). Originally damaged by an earthquake in 27 BC, they were reconstructed in 199 AD. The Colossi of Memnon gained tremendous fame throughout the Greco-Roman Empire due to the phenomenon known as the "Vocal Memnon," where the sound of the wind passing through the statues created a melodic tone at dawn. Afterward, you will return to your cruise.
The remainder of the day will be spent on board your Nile Cruise, where you can savor a delightful lunch and enjoy the comforts of your floating accommodation.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
During your Nile Cruise, you will meet your tour guide after breakfast to visit the impressive: The Kom Ombo Temple Between 205 and 180 BC, during Ptolemy V's reign, the Greco-Roman era saw the construction of Kom Ombo, which means "Golden Hill." Horus, the falcon sky god and protector of kings and queens, and Sobek, the crocodile deity and patron of fertility, are depicted in opposing but nearly identical sections of the temple. Following lunch, you'll return to your Nile Cruise and continue sailing until you reach Luxor.
Following breakfast, you will begin your journey by preparing for a visit to one of Egypt's most magnificent temples:
Edfu Temple: Built during the Ptolemaic era, which spanned from 237 BC to 57 BC, the Edfu Temple stands as a testament to the sky god Horus. It was constructed on the very site where the legendary battle between Horus and the malevolent deity Set took place, as described in the Osiris Myth. The temple's interior and exterior showcase a remarkable fusion of Greek and Egyptian architectural styles.
Next, you will proceed to explore some of the captivating tourist attractions in Aswan, including:
High Dam: Constructed between 1960 and 1970 in collaboration with the Hydro Project Institute in Moscow, the High Dam serves multiple purposes. It was built to control the floods of the Nile, generate hydroelectric power, and improve water storage for agricultural purposes. The dam stands as a testament to Egypt's determination and ingenuity.
Completed Obelisk: Located at the entrance of the Karnak Temple, the incomplete obelisk, also known as "Tekhenu," was commissioned by Queen Hatshepsut (1508-1458 BC). Its unfinished state provides insights into the construction techniques used for obelisks. If completed, it would have weighed 1200 tonnes and stood at a height of 42 meters. Unfortunately, it was damaged during construction and remains in its original location.
Philae Temple: The Philae Temple commemorates the renowned "Myth of Isis & Osiris." The myth recounts the tragic murder of Osiris by his brother Set, followed by his resurrection and the victory of Horus, the son of Isis and Osiris, over Set. This triumph symbolizes a new era of prosperity and justice. In the 1960s, the temple was relocated to the island of Agilkia as part of a UNESCO-led rescue mission.
Following your exploration of Aswan's attractions, you will return to the Nile Cruise for a delightful lunch before continuing your journey to Aswan, often referred to as the city of perpetual light.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
After your breakfast boxes, you will meet your tour guide and depart early for the southwest of Aswan to see:
The Abu Simbel Temples
Since Ramses the Great built it on the southern boundary protecting the gates of heaven, the Abu Simbel temple, also known as the "Temple of Ramesses, treasured by Amun," has been a place of magnificence and fascination (1279-1213 BCE).
Every year on February 22 and October 22, Ramses II, Ptah (the God of Creation), Amun (the Creator God), and Ra (the Solar God) are depicted as sitting statues during the sun festival. A second, smaller temple is dedicated to Ramses II's devoted wife, Queen Nefertari. A UNESCO-led rescue operation had the temple as its main point in the center of the 1960s.
After that, we'll return you to Aswan where you may spend the night on a Nile cruise.
